I didn’t receive the SMS code — what should I do?
Quick answer
Check the number shown on the screen, then wait a full minute before tapping resend. If two resends do not arrive, request once more: the third resend goes out through a backup SMS route. You can request up to 5 codes an hour, and only the latest code works. If you are abroad or still receive nothing, WhatsApp us: the team can confirm your identity and give you a one-time login code.
Do this, in this order
1. Check the number shown on the code screen. If it is wrong, go back and type it again in the 01 format.
2. Wait a full minute, then tap resend. Requesting sooner shows “A code was just sent. Please wait one minute” and nothing new is sent.
3. If two resends do not arrive, wait another minute and request once more. The third resend is sent through a backup SMS route, which gets through when the usual route is slow.
4. You can request up to 5 codes an hour. After that the app shows “Too many requests”; wait for the hour to pass before asking again.
Check your phone
The code goes to the SIM card with that number. On a dual-SIM phone, make sure that SIM is active and has signal, and that the phone is not in airplane mode.
Look in the spam, blocked or “unknown senders” folder of your messages app, and delete old messages if your inbox is full. Some phones file one-time codes there automatically.
Typing the code
The code is 6 digits. Use the latest SMS only: each new request cancels the previous code, which then shows “Invalid verification code”. After 10 wrong codes your number is locked for 15 minutes.
Abroad, or still nothing?
Messages to Egyptian numbers roaming abroad can arrive late or not at all. WhatsApp us from your registered number: once the team confirms your identity, they give you a one-time login code that works for a short time.
To use it, request a code in the app as usual, then type the code the team sent you on the same screen.
